We’ve also included some commonly asked questions below for when it comes to obtaining the most value and satisfaction when buying your holiday ham or turkey. Whether it’s Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day or Father's Day, we recommend the following easy tips when preparing a meal to remember.

Selecting Your Ham or Turkey

When determining how much ham to buy for your next occasion, it is best to base your purchase on number of servings per pound. As a guide, you can expect:
Boneless: 3 servings per pound

Bone-in: 2 servings per pound

Caring For Your Ham or Turkey

Proper handling of your ham or turkey is very important. This protects the flavor and quality of your dish. Place your meat in the coldest part of the refrigerator promptly after purchase. Meat can usually be stored in its original wrapping until the freshness date on the package.

Leftover, cooked meats, should be tightly wrapped and covered, and refrigerated within 1 to 2 hours after heating. Store leftover meats in the refrigerator for a maximum of 4 to 5 days.

Ham and turkey does not keep its high quality for very long while stored in the freezer. Freezing causes changes in flavor and texture to occur. If freezing the product is necessary, it should be kept in original wrapping or, after heated, tightly sealed and stored at 8ºF for no longer than 2 months.

Cooking Your Ham or Turkey
